If you're importing goods through Dubai International Airport (DXB), Al Maktoum International Airport (DWC), or Jebel Ali Port, it's important to understand how to book a customs inspection in Dubai. Whether requested by Dubai Customs or initiated by the importer, the inspection process is a key step in ensuring smooth clearance and compliance with UAE regulations.
Here’s a step-by-step guide on how to book your customs inspection using Dubai Customs’ e-services, primarily through the Dubai Trade portal.
Access the Dubai Customs Inspection Booking Service
To get started, go to the Dubai Trade Portal or the official Dubai Customs website. These platforms host all the necessary e-services including the Customs Inspection Booking system. Look for the relevant section under “Customs Services” or use the search feature.
This online platform is your central hub for inspection requests, document submissions, and tracking.
Submit the Online Application
Once on the portal, you’ll be prompted to complete an online inspection request form. Here, you’ll provide key information such as:
- Shipment details (type, origin, etc.)
- Type of inspection (physical, X-ray, etc.)
- Expected arrival or container location (DXB, DWC, Jebel Ali, etc.)
Required documents may include your Import Declaration, commercial invoice, packing list, and any other paperwork requested by Dubai Customs.
Tip: If Dubai Customs has mandated the inspection, you won’t need to pay any service fees. But if you are voluntarily requesting the inspection, fees will apply.
Make the Payment (If Applicable)
If you’ve initiated the inspection yourself, you’ll be required to pay the relevant customs inspection fees. These can be settled online via the Dubai Trade payment gateway or other authorized payment channels.
Make sure you retain your payment confirmation, as it will be needed to finalize your booking.
Receive Confirmation & Track Your Request
Once the application is submitted and fees are paid (if applicable), you’ll receive a confirmation message with the inspection date, time, and designated location (DXB, DWC, or Jebel Ali). You can also track the status of your booking through the Dubai Trade platform or by contacting the Dubai Customs Contact Center.
Timely tracking ensures there are no delays in your cargo clearance process.
Attend the Inspection at the Designated Location
The inspection will be carried out at the location specified in your confirmation—this could be at Jebel Ali port, DXB Cargo Village, DWC, or another customs facility.
Make sure to follow all guidelines provided by Dubai Customs to avoid penalties or delays.
Important Notes for Jebel Ali Importers
For FCL (Full Container Load) consignments at Jebel Ali Port, your customs inspection booking is linked to DP World’s e-Token system. This means you’ll need to synchronize your inspection slot with terminal access via an e-Token. Failure to do so could result in missed inspection windows or storage penalties.
